Family Sponsorship

Family First Ghana is extremely passionate about supporting families who have children with special needs – we pride ourselves on taking a family-centred approach. We prioritise spending time building a relationship with each family and getting to know their specific needs. Every family we meet are different and are living in different situations or have different dreams and goals for their children and it is important to us as an NGO that each family has individualised care plan working towards these goals. Our Family Sponsorship Programme offers support to an individual family based on their care plan. We offer support in accessing appropriate medical care, therapeutic interventions, education, safe and accessible home environments, clean water and nutritional support. Becoming a sponsor means making a monthly donation to a specific family or project and in return you will receive regular updates on that family and the progress they make. The Family First sponsorship programme is a fantastic, beneficial way for you to have a direct impact on an individual family in Ghana. Recently, we have met several new children and families who are in desperate need of intervention. We have spent the past few months getting to know each family and their child’s needs and we are now seeking monthly sponsorship for several families so that they can get the interventions that they require.

If you would like to become a sponsor, please check our website or send us an email for more information.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will begin introducing each family one by one to our social media – so keep your eyes peeled.

Many of our families have faced discrimination and unfair treatment for so many years. Parents and often their child with special needs have such low confidence. Some young people are labelled as ‘witches’ or the family are ‘cursed’, or their children are house-bound because they do not have access to physiotherapy and specialist equipment, and even if they do their towns are not accessible. These are families who love their children, but don’t know how best to support them. We want to change that! We want to work with the family to empower them, make sure that they have equal rights and treated with the respect and care that they deserve. Through education of their community, through access to specialist services and equipment, we want to see these families go from surviving to thriving.

FFG work with a multi-disciplinary team, including physiotherapists and speech and language therapists. We also have strong links with Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry, Orthotists, carpenters and special education teachers. This ensures we take a holistic approach to getting the child’s needs met. However, we also focus on the family well-being, we have parent support groups and every time we introduce a new family into our programme, they are quickly welcomed by all of our other parents.
