Pearl

Pearl is always full of spirit and loves to joke and laugh, and what a wonderful smile she has! Pearl has cerebral palsy affecting her ability to walk and talk. However, Pearl understands everything going on her around, she communicates through gestures and facial expressions, moves by crawling and shuffling, and definitely finds her own unique way to make it clear what she wants!

Pearl has regular therapy at home and her family are taught how to support Pearl to stand and take supported steps. Pearl has made great improvements in being able to complete lots of activities by herself, such as dressing and feeding, but she experiences lots of unpredictable movements which can make things harder for her.

Pearl attends Agape Love Inclusive School, alongside Esther and the other students, and absolutely loves going to school. She will give anything a go and loves breaktime and socialising with her peers. She is cheeky and can sometimes be stubborn, meaning that she does things in her time, but when she sets her mind to something we know she will always achieve!

Pearl has five brothers, four of whom are younger than her and her family is very busy, meaning that sometimes it is hard for them to get Pearl to school. The roads to Pearl’s home are not accessible by car or wheelchair and her mother needs to carry Pearl to school on her back. We continue to work with Pearl and her family to offer support and try to problem-solve some of the challenges that we experience in Ghana for individuals with disability.
