Agyekum
Agyekum is a charismatic young boy who is a popular member of his community. He enjoys interacting with his family and friends, joining in any games or activities, and he has a great sense of humour.
Agyekum has cerebral palsy which impacts his ability to move and engage with activities of daily living independently. Sadly, Agyekum has faced many barriers as a wheelchair user and had never been able to attend school. This is heart-breaking, as he is a clever young boy who has been deprived of these important early life opportunities.
Agyekum has said he would love to learn leather work to make shoes. We initially found a specialist vocational school for Agyekum, however, he is a sensitive soul and found being away from home too hard. Therefore, we have adapted his care plan and Agyekum currently has a tutor who visits him at home for lessons. Together they focus on practical activities which link to his goal of leather work, such as learning numeracy to understand measurement and money, learning colours and shapes to help with design, and improving his fine motor skills so that he can manipulate objects such as scissors. He loves his lessons and really looks up to his tutor. We hope to connect Agyekum with opportunities in his local community to develop his skills in leatherwork.
Agyekum receives regular outreach physiotherapy to develop his independence. He loves ball games and lifting weights, saying that he would like to get bigger muscles. Agyekum also enjoys politics and going to church and he dreams of being an Assemblyman (local politician) or pastor for his community.
